| Press Release : Charity of Hope Exceeds Expectations |
![]() This year the Furniture Plus store in Grand Bahama sold Bahamian-made candles and "Angels of Hope" Christmas tree tags to help support the Grand Bahama Children's Home. General Manager Scott Ferguson noted that it was "amazing to us to see the response we received. We had customers come back two or three times to buy candles and we had to set up an extra tree on which to hang our angels this year." Furniture Plus matched candle and angel sales over the Christmas holidays, bringing the total children's home donation to $3,500. Nassau and Grand Bahama - Monday, January 19, 2009. Giving back just seems right during the holidays. Furniture Plus began their Charity of Hope donation program three years ago, selling lovely Bahamian made candles and decorative "Angels of Hope" (Christmas tree tags) in their stores to help various local charities, then matching sales with their own donation. "We are often asked for help especially during the Christmas season," said Krystynia Lee d'Arville, Director of Sales & Marketing for Furniture Plus. "We loved the idea of helping various charities reach lots of people. We knew that our customers felt the same way, but the task can seem overwhelming when you're 'just one person.' So each year we sell our candles and angels so that, together, we and our customers can make a more significant impact." With two island locations, Furniture Plus was able to choose two charities this year. Nassau's funds helped the Special Olympics Bahamas. "This will go a long way to assisting our efforts in providing sports and training activities for the intellectually challenged in our community" said Basil Christie, Special Olympics National Chairman. "As our program continues to grow and provide services to many more athletes, we rely strongly on the generosity of companies such as yours." ![]() Furniture Plus Nassau helps our Special Olympians! Some very deserving athletes will benefit from a much-needed check presented to Special Olympics Bahamas by leading furniture retailer Furniture Plus. Funds for the donation were raised via the Furniture Plus Charity of Hope campaign over the holidays, which featured sales of Bahamian-made candles and "Angels of Hope" Christmas tree tags. All Charity of Hope sales and donations were matched by the company. Grand Bahama selected the Grand Bahama Children's Home. "We are delighted to help the home in Grand Bahama this year. My wife, Victoria, has always been involved with the home and my staff were thrilled with the choice we made," said Scott Ferguson, General Manager of Furniture Plus Grand Bahama. "What was more amazing to us was the response we received. We had customers come back two or three times to buy candles and we had to set up an extra tree on which to hang our angels this year." All the funds raised by customers were then matched by the company. Though the owners will not divulge which island raised more donations, the company donated $3,500 to each of the charities last week on behalf of Furniture Plus customers and the staff and management of the stores. "I can't say 'thank you' enough about the donation," said Geneva Rutherford, GB Children's Home Executive. "We have some new children who came to the home just last week, so this donation has come at a perfect time." The tradition of caring and sharing is something Mrs. d'Arville plans to continue. "Helping others in not a question of 'should we' but of 'who will we' help. Our staff truly embraces this chance to give back to our communities. On behalf of everyone here at Furniture Plus, we would like to thank our loyal customers for joining us again this year in helping these two worthy charities." Furniture Plus was founded in December of 1988 by the late Paul Patrick Tyrone d'Arville and his son, Troy T. d'Arville. Over the past 20 years, Furniture Plus has grown into one of the Bahamas' leading furniture stores with a wide selection of furniture that includes kitchen, bedroom, dining, and living room, as well as home office furnishings and accessories. The exclusive factory distributor of Kenmore Appliances America's #1 Appliance Brand and JVC Electronics, Furniture Plus is a nationally recognized brand. The company boasts a second location in Grand Bahama with plans to soon expand throughout the Bahamas' chain of islands.
