Furniture Plus gives thousands back to the community as part of its "Believe" campaign

My charity of choice is The Cancer Society.
Cheerful giver! Grand Bahama Furniture Plus store winner for May, Ms. Tammi Mitchell, was thrilled to win a new dinette set and to participate in selecting The Cancer Society as her charity. "It's my mom's birthday on June 24th," said Ms. Mitchell, pictured at right with Grand Bahama Sales Associate Anya, "so I am giving her the dinette set."

The Bahamas, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 . Furniture Plus stores in Nassau and Grand Bahama continue to give away over $40,000 in prizes while donating thousands more to charities selected by winning customers. The giveaways are part of the company's "Believe" campaign, which is built around the concept that people and the community matter. Since the campaign began in March, Furniture Plus has earmarked over $4000 in cash donations for charity to show what happens when Bahamians help each other by giving back and believing in their communities. Monthly winners for May and June selected charities that are near and dear to their own hearts while proving that it's not just about winning.

Grand Bahama Furniture Plus store winner for May, Ms. Tammi Mitchell, was thrilled to win a new dinette set but she wasn't just thinking about herself. "It's my mom's birthday on June 24th," said Ms. Mitchell, "so I am giving her the dinette set. We were just there (at Furniture Plus) looking at one she wanted. She cried when I told her I was going to give it to her."

Furniture Plus gives winners the opportunity to select from a list of charities to support as part of their prize. "My charity of choice is The Cancer Society because I would like to see the fight continue around the world to save lives," said Ms. Mitchell, adding with a smile, "I am one of those persons who thinks they will never win. Frankly, this is only the second time in my 40+ years I have won something, so I feel honored." Grand Bahama store Manager Scott Ferguson said, "I think all my sales staff were a bit teary-eyed listening to Ms. Mitchell's story about her mom and her chosen charity. We found it touching and it confirms everything we've been trying to accomplish through this campaign."

Charities win, too!
Charities win, too! Long-time Furniture Plus customer Ms. Janice Dean (right), Nassau's May store winner, was also excited to win a dinette set and selected The Bahamas Ranfurly Home for Children. "I chose this charity because I have four girls of my own, and I want to encourage others to support children's charities," she said. Ms. Janice Dean, Nassau's May store winner, was also excited to win a dinette set. "I chose The Bahamas Ranfurly Home for Children because I have four girls of my own, and I want to encourage others to support children's charities," she said.

Shacara Knowles was so excited about being the Nassau winner for June that she screamed into the phone upon hearing the news. Her prize was a Kenmore chest freezer and her selected charity also benefits children. She said, "The reason I chose The Bahamas Ranfurly Home for Children is because I just heard that they may have to close for lack of sponsorship. I'm concerned for all of the children they currently care for."

"Ms. Knowles is right," says Mrs. Krystynia Lee d'Arville, Furniture Plus Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "The Bahamas Ranfurly Home for Children needs our support now more than ever. I read a report online that the home is 'struggling to find ways to keep the facility open.' We are very concerned for the children, which is why we have included charities such as Ranfurly and the Grand Bahama Children's Home in our campaign."

Look what we won!
One happy winner! June Grand Bahama winner Anatol Munnings (center) is all smiles as she designates the Grand Bahama Children's Home as her charity. "I wanted to help the kids because they get forgotten a lot," she said. The June winner for the Grand Bahama Furniture Plus store is Ms. Anatol Munnings, who said she was "happy and thankful to win a Kenmore chest freezer. Not many people are giving things away for free right now in this economy." Ms. Munnings selected the Grand Bahama Children's Home as her charity. "I wanted to help the kids because they get forgotten a lot," she said. "They need our help now, especially, and I hope more 'Believe' winners choose to help them, too."

Furniture Plus doesn't limit its charitable activities to those tied with promotional campaigns. Since its inception the company has lent a hand to a long list of causes, often with little or no fanfare. About five years ago they established the "Charity of Hope" for the Christmas season, and today this foundation continues to operate year 'round.

Mrs. Lee d'Arville is pleased with the community spirit combined with opportunities to both give and receive. "Having a win-win situation where people can not only receive valuable prizes but also participate in charitable activities makes for a successful campaign," she said. "We are excited to see the joy on our customers' faces and can only imagine the joy they are giving to others. That's what believing together is all about."
