"I'm extremely pleased to see companies doing their part to assist the victims in Haiti," said Mr. Stubbs.

The Bahamas - January 31, 2010. In the aftermath of the horrific earthquake that has shaken the fragile country of Haiti, Furniture Plus is urging Bahamian citizens to join them in their humanitarian relief efforts. The furniture retailer's locations in Nassau and Grand Bahama have so far donated a combined $5,000 corporately to Rotary Club chapters in The Bahamas through its Charity of Hope giving campaign.

"We have watched the television news broadcasts coming out of Haiti in disbelief," remarked Krystynia Lee d'Arville, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Furniture Plus. "We celebrate the occasional victories, but I'm troubled by the innocent children who are still hungry, thirsty, sick and dying every day. We cannot afford to be complacent when so many lives are at stake."

Dawn Forbes, Executive Assistant, Sales and Marketing at Furniture Plus in Nassau, commented: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti during this difficult time, and we want them to know they have not been forgotten." To that end, Mrs. Forbes presented a check for $2,500 to Mr. Felix Stubbs of Bahamas Rotary Nassau. "I’m extremely pleased to see companies doing their part to assist the victims in Haiti," Mr. Stubbs said. "We were fortunate to have volunteers in Haiti within 24 hours of the disaster to distribute cash, medical supplies, water and light meals."

Scott Ferguson, Managing Partner for the Grand Bahama Furniture Plus store location, presented an additional $2,500 check to Mr. Jamie Rose, President of the Rotary Club of Grand Bahama Sunrise. Mr. Ferguson said, "It's important to us that funds designated for Haiti are handled responsibly, so we're glad to have the cooperation and assistance of our local Rotary Clubs." Mr. Rose explained that "Rotary is a reputable international organization that is ensuring all funds are channeled directly to Haiti."

The Charity of Hope Christmas giving campaign was established by Furniture Plus in 1995 for collecting donations towards local causes such as children's homes. Now the charity is expanding to a year-long effort beginning this year. "In addition to our direct corporate contributions, we will soon be offering decorative Bahamian-made 'Candles of Hope' in our stores with all proceeds benefiting Haiti until further notice," said Mrs. Lee d'Arville. "This is in conjunction with our 2010 'Believe' promotion which stresses our belief not only in our customers, but in our community and worthwhile charitable causes."

"It's great to see more companies doing their part and helping the Haiti relief efforts," noted Mr. Rose. "We are hopeful that others will join in to assist us and also the Red Cross."

Mrs. Lee d'Arville is urging all Bahamians to help in any way they can. "Haiti is not that far away," she said. "It could just as easily have been us."
